Dell Technologies Named CRN’s 2022 Tech Innovator Award Winner

Dell VxRail satellite and dynamic nodes named Winner in the Hyperconverged Infrastructure category.

We are pleased to announce that Dell Technologies has been named a CRN 2022 Tech Innovator winner in the Hyperconverged Infrastructure category for the second year in a row.

This annual award program, overseen by a panel of CRN editors, celebrates innovative vendors in the IT channel across 38 different technology categories. This includes critical business areas ranging from cloud to storage to networking to security. According to CRN’s CEO Blane Radden, CRN Tech Innovator Awards recognize “…those technology vendors that are making the biggest impacts in digital transformation for solutions providers with unique, cutting-edge products and services. We are delighted to recognize these best-in-class vendors that are driving transformation and innovation in the IT space.”

With this award, CRN recognizes how Dell has stepped up to the plate with VxRail satellite and dynamic nodes.

VxRail satellite nodes are single nodes designed specifically for deployment in edge environments and managed through a centralized primary VxRail cluster. These single satellite nodes give users the ability to expand VxRail solutions into small and remote locations to manage the edge like your data center. With a lightweight vSphere footprint, automated lifecycle management across many remote deployments and an operational model that extends VMware simplicity, the same administrative teams that run the data center can manage these nodes remotely.

Which use cases are the best fit for VxRail satellite nodes?

    • Healthcare: You can install VxRail clusters in data centers at regional and local hospitals while using VxRail satellite nodes at doctors’ offices, imaging facilities and localized urgent care.
    • Retail: Once again, corporate and ROBO data centers can run large and small clusters while stores are able to consolidate workloads like point of sale, video analysis, security and more on VxRail satellite nodes.
    • Manufacturing: Often, manufacturing customers want to partition off systems used in manufacturing plants. In those cases, we see VxRail used across multiple sites for corporate IT, and in parallel, the Operational Technology (OT) teams install highly redundant and locally managed VxRail clusters in the manufacturing facilities, firewalled or DMZ’d from the rest of the environment.

Address Asymmetric Scaling with Dell VxRail Dynamic Nodes

Not all workloads scale symmetrically. They have different, and sometimes extreme, compute and storage requirements.

For applications that benefit from asymmetric scaling of processing power and storage capacity, VxRail dynamic nodes decouple storage and compute resources. Dynamic nodes leverage ESXi compute nodes with VxRail HCI System Software. These nodes provide storage flexibility by leveraging VMware HCI Mesh or Dell external storage resources – like PowerStore – for use as primary storage.  As processing demand grows, customers can add dynamic nodes to the cluster. As storage capacity demand grows, customers can also provision more storage from external storage resources to dynamic nodes to let you:

    • Pool and utilize unused VMware vSAN™ storage across your existing VxRail clusters with VMware HCI Mesh.
    • Scale when and where you need it based on workload requirements.
    • Manage licensing at a more granular level.
    • Address data-centric workloads by coupling Dell external storage arrays as primary storage with VMware Cloud Foundation on VxRail.
    • Deliver VxRail HCI System Software operational efficiencies.

Improved Efficiency and Sustainability

At Dell Technologies, we are committed to sustainability and believe modernization should go hand in hand. By offering more ways to scale, simplified operations and a consistent operational model, both dynamic and satellite nodes enable workload consolidation that reduces sprawl, eliminates silos of infrastructure and cuts down on resource over-provisioning. Combined with the incredible efficiency of the underlying PowerEdge infrastructure, these features lead to improved efficiency and sustainability.

This is an exciting time of transformation for the IT industry and a direct reflection of Dell Technologies ongoing commitment to deliver powerful and innovative solutions to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers and partners. We are honored to be named as a winner and share this accomplishment with our customers, channel partners and team members.
