Reduce the Complexity of Hybrid Cloud Computing

The enormous diversity of cloud computing services today has enabled IT teams to adopt multiple platforms to accommodate various cloud workloads. By aligning the resources of a cloud service with the needs of a specific workload, IT teams can increase application performance, reduce consumption costs and avoid vendor lock-in. But managing this multicloud infrastructure can be chaotic and complex, adding significant cost and limiting the ability of cloud investments to accelerate innovation.

The answer: a hybrid cloud infrastructure with a common management plane that enables IT teams to easily manage cloud workloads across public, private and edge cloud resources. For enterprises seeking an industry-leading hybrid cloud technology, Dell Technologies provides a comprehensive solution.

The Challenges of Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure

Hybrid cloud computing enables IT teams to deploy workloads across public, private and edge cloud platforms, choosing best-of-breed solutions that are optimal for business-critical workloads. Public clouds provide pay-as-you-go, on-demand cloud computing resources as well as access to new technologies like serverless computing and real-time analytics. Private clouds offer advantages in security, data governance and data locality, while edge cloud platforms provide decentralized processing that can help reduce costs and provide low-latency experiences.

This hybrid approach to cloud computing offers benefits in application performance, cost savings, flexibility and scalability. But it also creates a management challenge: each cloud platform comes with its own tools and processes and requires a different set of skills. In addition to the time lost toggling between cloud platforms, managing multiple platforms can create more risk, increase the complexity of migrating workloads, raise operational costs, require new talent or additional training, reduce speed to market and inhibit innovation.

To reap the benefits of hybrid cloud computing, organizations must control the chaos of a hybrid infrastructure by adopting solutions for consistent operation and infrastructure virtualization. That’s precisely what you’ll find with business cloud solutions from APEX.

Unify Cloud Technologies with Dell APEX

Dell APEX offers an end-to-end portfolio of multicloud solutions and as-a-Service subscriptions that combine the agility of public cloud services with the control that private clouds provide. By enabling organizations and IT teams to choose the types of clouds best suited for each workload, Dell APEX helps overcome the complexities and constraints of managing a multicloud environment consisting of public and private clouds. Collaboration between Dell APEX and public cloud providers drives consistency across a multicloud environment to simplify operations, while as-a-Service and flexible subscriptions help reduce costs and free up IT administrators to focus on innovation and other strategic activities.

Deploy Dell Software in Public Cloud Services

Dell APEX offers a “multicloud by design” approach that delivers greater control over constantly expanding amounts of data in public clouds and on-premises infrastructure. With Dell APEX business cloud products and services, IT teams can rely on familiar, best-of-breed software from on-premises Dell infrastructure to manage public cloud services, enjoying a consistent management experience across data storage and protection solutions in both environments.

This ground-to-cloud feature of Dell APEX solutions simplifies management of storage, enhances data mobility and ensures operational consistency across environments. By leveraging the same enterprise-class functionality, resiliency and performance that IT teams already trust in on-premises Dell software, APEX increases the efficiency of IT teams as they manage public cloud services and extends their skill sets without requiring additional training.

Run Cloud-native Applications on-premise

Dell APEX solutions also offer cloud-to-ground features that extend public cloud services and container orchestration ecosystems to on-premises environments with modern cloud software on trusted Dell infrastructure. Integrated cloud platforms provide enhanced workload mobility and operational consistency while enabling IT teams to run cloud-native applications on-premises to better meet security, performance and compliance requirements.

With support for both virtualized and containerized applications, Dell APEX Cloud Platforms enable developers to build solutions once and deploy them anywhere using the software they prefer in the environment of their choice. The result is greater workload agility and unrestrained innovation, wherever applications and data live.

Cloud Computing FAQs

Cloud computing is an information technology model where on-demand computing resources (including servers, storage, databases, applications and cloud analytics) are provided over the internet or via a dedicated network connection. Rather than purchasing and maintaining hardware and software on-premises, organizations can access a shared pool of resources that are owned and managed by cloud companies and provided as a service with a pay-as-you-go pricing model.

Cloud computing enables IT teams to rapidly provision and release computing resources with minimal effort. Cloud technologies help increase flexibility, reduce costs and allow organizations to quickly scale up or down as needed. By providing computing resources as services, cloud technologies help organizations to avoid the cost of over provisioning while increasing reliability and improving cloud security.

There are several types of cloud computing, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Types of cloud computing include public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud, multicloud and edge cloud.

A public cloud offers computing resources as services using hardware and software that are managed by a third-party cloud company and accessed via the internet or a dedicated network connection. Shared by multiple organizations and individuals, public cloud services enable customers to access computing resources on a pay-per-usage pricing model and to scale up or down rapidly as needed.

A private cloud is a cloud computing environment that is dedicated to and controlled by one customer. A private cloud may be an internal cloud owned by a company and managed by its in-house IT team. Alternately, a private cloud may be provided and managed by a third-party cloud company that makes cloud resources available only to a single client.

Public cloud services provide enormous elasticity and scalability, allowing organizations to add capacity almost instantly while reducing the cost of consuming computing resources. Public clouds tend to offer lower costs and access to next-generation technologies. On the other hand, private clouds provide organizations with greater control, tighter security and lower latency, since computing resources are not shared with other users are “tenants.”

Because public cloud services are delivered from infrastructure that is shared by multiple customers, security may be an issue, especially for companies in highly regulated industries. Private cloud environments are more expensive to operate and cannot deliver the same level of scalability or performance as a public cloud.

A hybrid cloud is a cloud environment that uses a combination of public, private and edge cloud resources. Hybrid cloud computing enables IT teams to choose the ideal cloud platform for each workload to improve application performance and reduce costs.

A multicloud environment is one that combines services from two or more public cloud companies. Multicloud may include multiple Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions, or Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) or Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offerings. Most organizations today operate a multicloud environment, either by design or because of shadow IT. Less frequently, multicloud may involve the use of two or more private cloud environments.

An edge cloud combines the benefits of edge computing and cloud computing. Cloud computing offers access to cloud networking, compute and storage resources that may reside anywhere in the world. In contrast, to reduce latency, edge computing processes data at the edge of the network, closer to the users and devices that need it. Cloud edge computing provides access to computing resources as a service delivered from servers that are closer to users and devices.

A cloud-native application is software that is designed for the cloud from the ground up, rather than software that has been modified for the cloud. Run and hosted in the cloud, cloud-native applications are built to take advantage of the inherent characteristics of a cloud computing environment. Cloud-native apps use microservices, containers, APIs and dynamic orchestration to create software that is more flexible, agile and adaptable to cloud architecture.

Cloud networking is an IT model where an organization can access network capabilities and resources as a service, typically via a public cloud hosted by a cloud company or as a private cloud solution that is managed in-house. Cloud networking may include virtual firewalls, routers and bandwidth along with cloud network management software and tools.

Cloud analytics is technology for analyzing data where part or all of the analytics process is performed in the cloud. Some cloud analytics solutions use data sources from the cloud while others provide cloud-based processing applications. Cloud analytics may also use raw computing power and analytics models provided through cloud services. Cloud analytics services may include Data Warehouse-as-a-Service offerings that increase the speed and agility of analytics services.
