Visit the Integration Petting Zoo at Dell User Forum

There’s an old saying: “Measure twice, cut once.” It means when you are going to cut wood, lay a concrete foundation, or lathe metal you ought to be sure about your specifications — doubly sure — before doing something that if wrong will be hard to undo and redo. The analog in the IT world is “proper planning prevents…” well, you know the rest.

As you participate in the broad variety of sessions and breakouts at Dell User Forum this year and learn about how Dell can help you optimize your data center, I encourage you to think about your own “measurement.”  We almost certainly have an end-to-end solution that will increase your productivity, reduce your costs and improve manageability. What planning do you need to do get that solution integrated into your data center environment?

We have a few sessions on the agenda to help you think through your integration challenges, get hands-on with some of our converged infrastructure, and glean perspective and ideas from our experts. First, Jerry Winner will talk about how our Consulting and Deployment Services deliver a firm foundation for data center integration products Tuesday at 2pm in Diplomat Ballroom 5.

Follow that up with the opportunity to talk virtualized infrastructure configuration and deployment with Joe Fredrick and Rui Da Rosa Tuesday at 3:20pm in Atlantic Ballroom 3. We’ve got a fully operational converged solution running a Compellent SC200 fronted by two Compellent SC8000 controllers, three PowerEdge R720 hosts and a switch combination of a Force10 S5000 and a Brocade 300. The guys will cover host, switch and array configuration best practices and gotchas. They’ll show you the difference between FCoE and Direct Fibre and converged networking on the S5000. If you don’t get there on Tuesday, they’ll be back on Wednesday at 2:20pm in the same place to do it again.

This is your chance to not only throw your environment-specific questions at our integration experts but also to play with installation and configuration of some of our converged and virtualization platforms. Think of it as an Integration Petting Zoo. Have fun but be gentle — and please don’t feed the animals.

Ask the guys while you are there about our Support sessions (listed below) and our celebration Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:30 poolside at The Westin Diplomat. There will be giveaways, dinner, drinks and live music by Gypsy Lane Band, sponsored by Dell Global Support & Deployment.
