Unveiling Dell’s next generation converged infrastructure solutions — Active System 800

Topics in this article

Leveraging its vast experience, industry best practices and top-of-the-line components, Dell is introducing a new pre-integrated converged infrastructure offering – Dell Active System 800. Part of Dell’s Active Infrastructure portfolio – which blends intuitive infrastructure management, open architectures, flexible delivery models and a unified support model – Active System 800 can enable organizations to maximize the value of their infrastructure investments, driving faster time-to-value, higher efficiency, lower risk, and future-proof flexibility and scalability.

Active System 800 uses a virtualization-optimized converged infrastructure architecture that integrates the latest Dell innovations, including unified management with Dell’s new Active System Manager , modular infrastructure and a converged LAN/SAN fabric. Architected with Dell’s latest iSCSI-accessible EqualLogic PS-6110 arrays, PowerEdge M620 servers, the new PowerEdge I/O Aggregator and Dell Force10 S4810 network switches, this system is designed for highly virtualized environments with applications that demand performance, agility and scalability.

The centerpiece of innovation in the Active System 800 is the Active System Manager. Active System Manager is an intelligent and intuitive converged infrastructure manager that streamlines infrastructure configuration and on-going management. Through capabilities such as template-based provisioning, infrastructure lifecycle management and guided user workflows, Active System Manager enables IT to discover, inventory and configure infrastructure efficiently, and perform common management tasks, such as hardware failure alerting and workload migrations, from a single console.

Here’s a quick video overview of the Active System 800 offering:

For more than a year now, Dell has been offering pre-integrated infrastructure systems called vStarts. We launched the vStart 100 and vStart 200 for midsize data centers focused on mid-range virtualized applications, and followed it later in the year with vStart 50, a virtualization starter system focused on simplicity and value. Earlier this year we introduced our highly-scalable vStart 1000, bringing together the best of Dell enterprise portfolio – Dell Power Edge 12th generation blade servers, Dell Force 10 networking and Dell Compellent Fibre Channel storage – for mission-critical applications and large scale private cloud and VDI implementations.

Like vStart, the Active System 800 reflects Dell’s expertise and experience working with customers on solving problems related to virtualization, cloud computing and application virtualization. Led by a team of highly-skilled solution systems engineers working closely with Dell Services architects, this system goes through rigorous amounts of testing and optimization. And best of all, the Active System 800 comes fully pre-assembled, pre-tested and includes enterprise deployment services and a unified support mode.
