As one of VMware’s biggest OEM partners, Dell is leading the way in helping customers manage their virtualized work environments. Today, at VMworld Europe,we’re announcing our Dell Management Plug-in for VMware vCenter, which is designed to compress tasks and bring various management processes such as firmware updates and bare metal deployment into the VMware vCenter Server management console—the de facto standard for VMware virtualization management.
With this new plug-in, Dell 11th generation PowerEdge server users will have richer alerting, a cluster view of Dell hardware, BIOS, and firmware versions, a process for BIOS/firmware updates, and the ability to build hardware profiles, hypervisor profiles, and deploy any combination of the two on bare metal Dell PowerEdge servers – remotely and without PXE, through vCenter.
What sets Dell Management Plug-in for VMware vCenter apart, is that it is delivered as a virtual appliance and is easier to deploy and configure. Dell’s offering integrates directly into the vCenter console and provides more information inside of vCenter itself – unlike other vendors who provide mostly link and launch capabilities to point to their own proprietary console. This provides a streamlined and consistent way to deal with hardware provisioning and hypervisor deployment from directly within VMware vCenter.
Dell remains in lock-step with VMware to deliver a comprehensive systems management strategy that delivers on improving IT efficiencies and reducing complexity. Dell offers several plug-ins to VMware vCenter (through AIM and EqualLogic) which is part of our larger goal to provide system management solutions to the right person at the right time in the most efficient manner possible.
