Technology and Entrepreneurs Unlock Human Potential

The following is a guest post from Elizabeth Gore, Dell’s new Entrepreneur in Residence, pictured (right) below with our first EIR Ingrid Vanderveldt.

Elizabeth most recently served as the first-ever Entrepreneur in Residence at the United Nations Foundation, in which she worked with the United Nations and the Foundation to support innovation and entrepreneurial thinking. Ms. Gore previously served as Vice President of Global Partnerships at the Foundation, and founded strategic grassroots efforts such as Nothing But Nets, Girl Up, and the Shot@Life. Additionally, she manages partnerships with Fortune 100 companies and with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Ingrid Vanderveldt and Elizabeth GoreBy the year 2020 the world will need 500 million jobs to employ the eligible global workforce.  Entrepreneurs, with the help of technology, are the solution. They are the engine that drives the world economy and globally account for ~70 percent of job creation.

I was honored to bring this important discussion to the TechCrunch Disrupt stage in San Francisco, among 3,000 start-ups, venture capitalists, investors and media, while announcing my appointment as Dell’s next Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR).

I began working with Dell in my current role as the EIR at the United Nations Foundation, and learned our two organizations have similar objectives – to enable and improve human potential. From refugee camps to Silicon Valley, I have seen innovators and entrepreneurs creatively implementing this mission and using technology and true grit!

I am honored and excited to join Dell as its EIR in February 2015 to:

  1. Extend Dell’s advocacy efforts to raise entrepreneurship to the public policy agenda, encouraging policies and practices that support and enable entrepreneurial growth globally.
  2. “Bring the outside in” and leverage my humanitarian experience and connections to help entrepreneurs quickly scale and succeed.
  3. Serve as a strategic advisor, providing the Dell leadership team with ideas, access and opportunities to emerging technologies that can further enable Dell business, and help bridge the gap between technology and the humanitarian/development communities.

Dell’s global footprint and influence will give entrepreneurs the platform to take their solutions to scale. Together with Dell we will make change on the global agenda around entrepreneurship and job creation by building movements and encouraging everyone, everywhere to stand up and get involved, and we’ll show them how tech enables all of it.

Before joining Dell Financial Services in 2000, she worked at the Texas Workforce Commission and PepsiCo Food Systems Worldwide.
