Small Business Tech Summit 09: The Importance of Connecting With Your Customers

This past Tuesday I presented at the Small Business Tech Summit in NYC to talk with small business IT managers and owners about the power of social media and the value of forming relationships with your customers. If you missed the event, you can check out my presentation on the summit Web site.

I outlined 10 recommendations that a small business leader can utilize today and, in many cases, the tips are free…..the cost is one’s time. My view is that there is nothing more valuable than to find new and productive ways to have conversation with and learn from your customers, so there is always “time”.

After speaking, I had the opportunity to share additional advice with the folks at Network Solutions – check out the video below.

Also, Shashi Bellamkonda from Network Solutions blogged about the keynote and shared some photos from the day.

There’s a lot of great coverage of the day from SmallBizResource, SmallBiztechnology, Geeklytimes and Twitter. For me, one of the biggest takeaways from the event was that small businesses realize the power of social media, but are not always sure of what the first step should be for their company. This is one of the reasons why we are providing social media advice on our Social Media for Small Business page on Facebook. With more than 15,000 fans, the site is becoming a great place to receive advice from Dell’s social media team and the community itself. Hope to see you there.

All the best, Bob
