I recently had a fantastic opportunity to travel to Buckingham Palace and witness the launch of the Glasgow 2014 Queen’s Baton Relay as it starts its global journey across the Commonwealth. It was a real privilege to be representing Dell, and to join some of Scotland’s greatest athletes, along with Games partners, political leaders and commissioners.
With crowds and TV crews lining the Mall, it was an amazing atmosphere and a real milestone for the Games. As the countdown to Glasgow 2014 continues, the Baton will make sure the excitement surrounding the competition extends outside of the UK to the 70 nations and territories across the Commonwealth.
One of the honorary batonbearers taking part in the ceremony was Monica Dzodzi, an inspirational youth leader from a UNICEF project in Malawi. Monica was representing the ambitions of the Games to deliver a positive impact to young people through sport. At Dell, we’re supporting this vision by asking our Athlete ambassadors to visit schools across the UK for a series of inspirational talks to encourage more pupils to get into sport.
We’re proud to be the Official IT Hardware and Data Centre Supporter for Glasgow 2014 and we’re looking forward to outlining the important role technology has to play at the Games.
