Potential SXSW 2012 panels from Dell folks: Time to vote

SXSW 2012 voting begins bannerThe folks behind the South by Southwest (SXSW) event opened up the PanelPicker for voting last week. Those of you who have attended or follow SXSW Interactive know that voting is part of the process to determine which of the thousands of panels submitted actually will happen at the event in March 2012.

The SXSW team opened voting began August 15 and runs through September 2. Here’s  the timeline for the Panel Picker and here’s the PanelPicker FAQ. Here’s how the folks at SXSW describe the process:

SXSW Panel Selection Process

For those of you who are interested, Dell employees have submitted 28 different panel topics this year. Some, like How Dell Drives B2B Results Using Social Media are Dell-specific. Others like  The next Generation of Ideation and Social Media Upside-down Under have a Dell influence. Others, like Social Media – worthless or priceless?  and Those Who Can, Listen; Those Who Really Can, Act are reflective of broader trends that are impacting lots of  us who engage people through a variety of social networks personally, professionally, or both. And some, like Zombies (and Lawyers) Ate My Retweet Button from our own social media lawyer Ryan Garcia may be worth checking out just because.

The panel that I’m part of that I hope makes the cut is one I named Blogging is Dead – 2012 Edition. I called it that because it’s a discussion that has happened before. The title of the panel is causing some churn since Robert Scoble, Jeff Jarvis and Mark Krynsky mentioned it in their Google+ streams. To clarify, I personally don’t think blogging is dead, and I know the panelists don’t either. But there’s no doubt that blogging is changing due to the increasing options for people to share and publish information online. That change is going to be part of the conversation, and so will how to create content that rises above the noise. I thought it’s a topic worth revisiting in light of where we are today with options like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Posterous and now Google+ all providing options for publishing on the web and for driving conversations.

Here’s the link that will take you to all 28 panel proposals. If you have questions or comments about a specific panel, feel free to leave a comment here or you can go to that panel entry in the PanelPicker to do so. Thanks in advance for spending some time to look through some of these. We appreciate that and also any votes you cast in support of our proposed panels.
