More Reasons Why YouTube Makes Sense

Over the weekend, Lawrence Lessig blogged that YouTube is slowly rolling out the option to download a video. I agree with him—it seems like this move will encourage more folks to share videos.

I also saw that both the Wii and the Playstation 3 will soon support playing YouTube videos on your TV. And also over the weekend, Miguel Helft's story in the New York Times noted "In November, Americans conducted nearly 2.8 billion searches on YouTube, about 200 million more than on Yahoo." In a lot of ways, that doesn't surprise me. Lots of folks I know search YouTube all the time for product reviews, game walkthroughs, software how-tos and more. And it looks like YouTube searches widened the gap to Yahoo a bit more in comScore's December 2008 results.

All in all, these are two more reasons why YouTube makes a great video platform for corporate blogs. In Web 2.0 terms, if you create videos that your customers want to watch, the next step is to allow folks to view them on as many devices as possible and  to make it easy for them to share those videos with others. YouTube has a big advantage on both fronts, and shows no signs that it will slow down any time soon.
