More powerful iSCSI storage for small-to-medium companies with Dell Storage PS4210 Series

Small- and medium-size businesses face the same performance challenges as large enterprises, along with much tighter resource constraints. To overcome those challenges within small businesses and remote offices, Dell announced the Dell Storage PS4210 Series arrays with improved performance and advanced connectivity options.

The smaller companies I worked for in my career had three traits in common. First and foremost, they developed excellent customer relationships by being ultra-responsive to their individual customers’ needs. Secondly, with limited staffing, many employees performed multiple roles within an organization. Lastly, ROI was critical for all purchase decisions including IT investments—whether it was faster response times, time savings or an overall lower TCO.

To ensure you can respond quickly to customer needs, the PS4210 arrays, with a new hybrid model, offer up to 6x improved performance compared to the previous generation, delivering up to 80,000 IOPS[1]. The PS4210XS hybrid array’s automated tiering between SSDs and SAS drives is a natural fit for VDI deployments , supporting up to 1,000 virtual desktops while achieving nearly 10,000 IOPS with less than 3 milliseconds of latency during boot storms.[2]

While consistent high performance is key to your internal and external customers, the overall solution has to also offer management simplicity within your fast-paced small business. In many organizations, an IT generalist manages their PS Series arrays. The PS4210 10GbE iSCSI arrays offer enterprise capabilities in five models that boast a more powerful controller with double the cache memory and twice the number of ports. You can auto-negotiate from 1Gb to 10Gb to make your environment easier to manage with the flexibility of using 2 10GbE SFP+ or 2 10GBASE-T ports. Not only are the PS4210 arrays fully compatible and interoperable with all previous Dell EqualLogic PS Series arrays, they also offer the same industry-leading capabilities including ease of use, streamlined management and low TCO.

Shipped with Dell EqualLogic Array Software, the PS4210 arrays enable sound strategies for data protection, storage management, virtualization and optimization. EqualLogic Host Software enables cooperation with host operating systems, hypervisors and applications while the EqualLogic SAN HQ management software is integrated into Dell ProSupport Services with SupportAssist for automatic support case creation and tracking. Dell can also provide lifecycle services powered by highly trained experts, innovative tools, and proven processes for your PS Series environment. These time-saving options make storage management simple for busy IT specialists.

The all-inclusive software licensing package included with all PS4210 arrays provides continual upgrades of new features at no additional cost with a valid support contract. That is part of the reason why the PS Series storage solution has the lowest total cost of ownership over a five year period compared to two comparable SAN arrays in the market.[3]
