A recent USA Today article stated that two-thirds of military families are cutting back on their Thanksgiving celebrations this year because of economic hardship. A USO-Metropolitan Washington survey found that financial concerns are the number one stressor for local junior-enlisted military members. Dell has found a small but meaningful way to help military families in our area have a more joyous Thanksgiving holiday.
Dell is a proud supporter of USO-Metro, an organization that assists and gives thanks to our country’s brave military families. USO-Metro’s “Turkeys for Troops” is an annual program that provides junior-enlisted service members and their families in the Washington-Baltimore region holiday food baskets for a complete Thanksgiving feast.
In 2012 USO-Metro raised $70,000 in corporate donations and $42,000 through the Turkeys for Troops WUSA telethon. All proceeds were used to create Thanksgiving food baskets that were distributed to our military service members and their families.
This Veterans’ Day, my colleague, Mike Singer, and I will represent Dell and appear on WUSA Channel 9 to raise money for USO-Metro’s Turkeys for Troops program. In addition to providing financial support, Dell volunteers will assemble and distribute the Thanksgiving food baskets to military families at Fort Belvoir and Fort Meade military installations.
We encourage you to help make the 2013 Turkeys for Troops program an even bigger success. If you’re in the DC area, please tune in to the telethon on WUSA Channel 9 on Veterans Day from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and make a donation that helps support our troops. Or donate online simply by adding “Turkeys for Troops” in the comment section at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1440398.
