As a follow-up to the Earth day activities blogged about last week, I was able to attend a Green IT Summit at the US Senate and House of Representatives on Earth day, on Capitol Hill.
Dell was one of several technology leaders invited to the Green IT Summit to offer insight into “going green” and demonstrate cutting edge environmentally-friendly technologies. The summit is one of several programs within the Green the Capitol Initiative, established in 2007 to demonstrate leadership to the nation by providing an environmentally responsible and healthy working environment for House employees.
Dell’s Area Vice President of Civilian Agencies, Max Peterson, (pictured), spoke to an audience of Senate and House members and staff on our current state of the environment, both in the US and world-wide. Highlights of Max’s presentation included:
- The importance of server consolidation or “Greening the Datacenter,” and the effect it has had on the environment as well as cost savings.
- Our “Asset Recovery Services” offerings – a keen area of interest for our Capitol Hill customers.
- Unveiling environmentally friendly opportunities across the full lifecycle of products, from design and implementation through recovery and recycling.
- Best practices for giving back to the environment, engaging employees and the community through recycling events and programs like “Plant a Tree for me.”
The Green IT Summit on Earth day was a great platform to highlight new opportunities. I spoke with several summit attendees and look forward to keeping an open dialogue with them about the continuing ways they improve their work environment and technology operations.
