Giving Tuesday: You Trade In One, We Give One

With the holiday giving season approaching, we are supporting access to technology for those who need it most to open doors to opportunities for the future, for everyone.

The holiday season always makes me think about what I have to be thankful for – my family, our health and a job where I can drive positive change top the list. While the pandemic and the impacts it has had on society aren’t in the rearview mirror yet, I am hopeful and optimistic about the opportunities ahead, specifically in the areas where I can help make a difference. At Dell Technologies, we’ve always focused on using our technology to deliver access to opportunity, but with the disparity between those with access and those without more visible than ever, we are even more driven to make a meaningful difference for those who need it most.

As we approach Giving Tuesday, we see another opportunity to engage and give back to our communities – championing digital inclusion while helping us deliver on our commitment to advance sustainability. I’m proud to announce “Trade in and Give” a charitable initiative where for the month of December, for every eligible computer¹ we receive to be refurbished or reused through our Dell Trade In program we will donate a device to a student in the U.S. impacted by the digital divide.

For the estimated 12 million kids in the U.S. currently lacking adequate internet or computing devices at home, the risk of being left behind has never been more real. And addressing this issue means not only access to devices but also connectivity, digital literacy skills and community support to fully engage in the digital ecosystem – which is what our work to support digital inclusion seeks to deliver. We work with non-profits, community leaders and public and private sector collaboration to scale impact to reach communities around the world. Take on Race is one example of this in action. This coalition of corporations across the country is advancing racial equity by working to close the digital divide. Dell, alongside Intel, has already donated devices to students in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Newark, Minneapolis, Oakland, Detroit and the lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas to support learning from anywhere. The impact of the devices donated through leading non-profits in these communities has been incredible to see. Just last month, students in New York were able to keep learning online when a nor’easter closed schools. Another city donated devices to engage students in a coding and robotics program to increase interest in STEM careers.

So how does Trade in and Give work?

    • Dell Trade In offers instant credit which can be used towards new Dell devices when you trade in an eligible device of any brand (not just Dell) for refurbishment or reuse.² This program is currently only available in the U.S. but will be rolled out in additional countries next year.
    • Sending in an eligible computer not only contributes to your next Dell technology purchase but also helps protect the planet.
    • And for the month of December, for every eligible computer received, we will donate a Dell Education 2-in-1 device to the Take on Race Coalition’s digital equity initiative, putting new devices in the hands of students in underserved communities.

This is your call to action – gather up all your out-of-use, but in working condition, computers together, and just visit https://tradein.dell.com to get started. It could not be easier to trade in and give back to the planet, and to someone in need of the gift of technology.

The fight for digital inclusion is a global one, and our efforts to support non-profits and schools extend to communities around the world. For more on our global efforts, click here and for global recycling options available in your country, visit our recycling site.

¹ Up to 2,000 donations. Promotion starts Nov. 30, 2021 and ends Dec. 30, 2021 or when 2,000 eligible trade-ins are completed, whichever comes first. Donations will be made directly to the non-profits E3 Alliance and Baltimore Digital Equity Collaborative through Take On Race Coallition in the form of one Education Chromebook 11 3100 2-in-1 per eligible trade-in.
