EMC Documentum Steps Outside the ECM Box, Named Leader by Ovum

Not all Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions are created equally. Despite the commoditization in the ECM market today, there are still several important differentiators that distinguish leading, enterprise-grade ECM platforms from point solutions.  At EMC we deeply value and focus on these differentiators, so we’re excited to announce that EMC has been recognized as a leader in the biannual “Ovum Decision Matrix: Selecting and Enterprise Content Management Solution” report for our Documentum suite. Leaders – as defined by Ovum, are those ECM platform vendors worthy of a place on most technology-selection shortlists, as well as those who have an established commanding market position with a product widely accepted as best of breed.

In addition to factors such as execution and market impact, Ovum evaluated the eight ECM solutions included in the report across 10 functional technology areas. EMC received the highest score possible for capture and scanning and high scores in digital asset management, records management (RM), and architecture and administration. It also rated highly in innovation, interoperability, and deployment capabilities. In terms of innovation, the report highlights EMC’s acquisition of SaaS-based Syncplicity for file sync and share which Ovum asserts is becoming the next ‘must-have feature’ in ECM systems as organizations demand secure ways of sharing information outside the firewall – we agree!

ECM Market Heightens its Focus on Compliance, Solutions &Cloud

Ovum also heralds EMC’s strength in content compliance and deployment, noting that Documentum’s RM capabilities have been certified by several governmental bodies in the U.S., including the Department of Defense (DoD), and its xCP solution allows developers to build and deploy custom, information-intensive, process-centric, and cased management solutions with minimal customized code.

Perhaps most significant was Ovum’s reinforcement of EMC’s focus on vertical solutions and its cloud strategy. Acknowledging EMC has already introduced 80 EMC Certified Solutions from partners and several of its own industry-specific solutions targeted at a variety of industries including Life Sciences, Energy and Engineering, Healthcare, Financial Services and Public Sector, Ovum suggests that EMC is on the right track and  sees expanded opportunity. Additionally, it touts EMC OnDemand with delivering customers agility, lower TCO, and simplicity to larger enterprises.

We are thrilled that EMC continues to receive industry recognition around its Documentum ECM solution suite. It underscores the importance we place on innovation and providing the highest quality, easiest to deploy, most powerful ECM platform available and our continued focus on developing innovative solutions to help our customers transform their businesses.
