With the acquisition of Credant Technologies now completed, Dell has bought nineteen companies in the past four years. Dell World showcased how these acquisitions have helped to turn Dell into an end-to-end provider of IT services, while core themes that defined Dell’s business in 2012 including Dell’s focus on storage, its accelerating momentum in servers and increased diversity into other areas including cloud, virtualization and mobility will continue into 2013.

In a threefold increase on last year, the Dell World 2012 conference in Austin last week attracted nearly 4,500 customers, partners and resellers eager to hear about Dell’s latest products and future plans. The growth in attendance reflects a move by Dell to increase the representation of business attendees at manager and director level.

Dell renewed its commitment to accelerating the growth of small and medium sized enterprise at Dell World last week with the launch of a new Dell Center for Entrepreneurs. The initiative, led by Dell’s entrepreneur in residence Ingrid Vandervelt, helps founders access the resources, expertise and solutions they need to start and grow a business.

Increased online shopping and Internet browsing activity ahead of the holidays increases security threats to the enterprise. A survey conducted by Dell SonicWALL has found that the failure of employees to recognize such threats could potentially open corporate networks to malware or viruses.

Forward Tutoring, an online, not-for-profit tutoring platform, has been named winner of the Dell Education Challenge, a global competition where university students submit innovative solutions for technology access and training across primary and secondary education.

Distinct, an Ireland-based management consultancy and analytics service provider, has enlisted Dell to power its private cloud analytics and certified infrastructure. Dell will provide servers and storage, enabling the company to handle an increased number of analytical projects and strengthen its data analytical systems
