Dell announced its release of the “smallest 13-inch laptop” on the market, the XPS 13, which boasts a borderless infinity display and 15 hours of battery life, on Jan. 6 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The XPS is available today on Dell.com in the United States, and prices start at $799.99.
“The borderless display allows it to feel more immersive, and it also gives customers something they really care about: the size of the device,” according to Neil Hand, vice president, Dell end-user computing products. “This is the smallest device you can put in your bag and still get 13-inch display.”
Frank Azor, Alienware and XPS general manager at Dell, highlighted some of the features of the Alienware 15 and 17, both of which are 20 percent thinner than their predecessors. The two devices have optional Intel Core i7 quad-core processors and NVIDIA GTX 980m graphics. The models are available today on Dell.com; the 15-inch notebook costs $1,199, and the 17-inch model costs $1,499.
“This is the only gaming notebook that can deliver high-performance gaming with this many frames per second,” said Frank Azor, Alienware and XPS general manager at Dell.
The Venue 8 7000 Series, first unveiled at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) last September, is now available for purchase on Dell.com in the United States and in select Best Buy stores. Named a 2015 CES Innovation Award Best of Innovation Honoree, the tablet is the world’s thinnest at 6 mm and features a 2560×1600 OLED infinity edge-to-edge display.
Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic, a visual artist who uses the Venue 8, called the device a game changer.
“The beautiful colors get the creative wheels turning,” Mestrovic said at the press conference.
Displays were a hot topic for the Texas-based technology giant at the press conference. The Inspiron lineup now offers an optional 4k Ultra HD touch display, which is in line with current industry trends. The Dell UltraSharp 34 Monitor is curved, allowing for a sharper, more immersive viewing experience.
“It’s all about color and more depth of color,” Hand said. “The best displays today are really accurate to what you see in real life, and that’s going to become much more normal everywhere. The display on the Venue 8 7000 gives you more colors than the eye normally sees.”
The Inspiron 15 7000 Series laptop with Windows was a 2015 CES Innovation Award honoree.
In terms of Dell’s presence at CES, Hand said he’s looking forward to seeing what the rest of the week has in store.
“Our job is to figure out which [startups] will benefit our customers,” he said.
