Dell sets a high bar at SAPPHIRE NOW 2015; announces three new solutions for SAP HANA

Forward-thinking and future ready customers are the reason Dell continues to develop its differentiated portfolio of solutions for the SAP HANA platform to meet the needs of customers of all shapes and sizes. This week at SAPPHIRE NOW, SAP’s annual customer conference, Dell is unveiling three new solutions for SAP HANA to help our customers quickly and effectively access the insights and data they need. Using these new solutions, including the new Dell PowerEdge R930 server which has been certified for running SAP HANA, Dell Transformation Services for SAP solutions, and Toad for SAP solutions, Dell is looking forward to enabling the next generation of Dell customers and helping them continue their success with SAP HANA.

Dell’s recently announced PowerEdge R930 helps customers transform their environments running SAP HANA

Dell recently announced its powerhouse server – the PowerEdge R930 – that is specifically designed for the most demanding enterprise applications, including in-memory databases such as SAP HANA. Featuring up to 72 processing cores of Intel Xeon E7-8800/4800 v3 family of processors, up to 6TB of memory in 96 DIMMs, 24 internal hard drives and support for up to eight high performance PowerEdge Express Flash NVMe PCIe SSDs, the PowerEdge R930 improves on our previous leadership positions on two key SAP benchmarks.  Specifically the PowerEdge R930 achieved:

  • A world record 4-processor result on the SAP Business Warehouse-Enhanced Mixed Load (SAP BW-EML) standard application benchmark(1)  and a 26% improvement over the previous 4-processor world record of ad-hoc navigation steps per hour set on the PowerEdge R920(2).
  • A world record 4-processor result on the two-tier SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmark(3) and 22% better performance than the previous world record result achieved by the PowerEdge R920, also on the two-tier SAP SD benchmark(4).

The PowerEdge R930 has been certified by SAP for scale-up deployments of the SAP HANA platform, a single-node approach which allows customers to easily grow their environments running SAP HANA and helps reduce the need to “rip and replace” when systems are upgraded. This gives customers the ability to buy what they need today, with the confidence that their infrastructure can keep pace as their needs increase.

For customers who want to gain business insight in real-time by integrating SAP HANA into their IT environment with little or no configuration, Dell offers Dell Engineered Solutions for SAP HANA. The appliance comes pre-integrated and pre-configured with SAP HANA on Dell PowerEdge R930 servers to help customers deploy applications faster, scale up and down easier, and better manage infrastructure and workload delivery.

Determining value for systems running SAP HANA

The Dell Services team is introducing a new way for businesses to better identify the value of running SAP HANA using Dell’s Transformation Services for SAP solutions. Under this innovative model, businesses work in tandem with Dell Services representatives to peruse Dell’s use case library for SAP HANA, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop a solution and roadmap for implementation. Dell Services customers are then able to use Dell’s Development Lab for SAP HANA to plan their upgrades, migration and ROI.

In addition, Dell Services will be showcasing customer stories that demonstrate how:

Dell Services will also present A roadmap for business transformation with SAP HANA—an interactive session on how Dell is enabling customers to realize value from SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA (SAP S/4HANA) by its Value Identification services leveraging preconfigured use cases and ROI calculators.

A whole new way to manage your database— Toad for SAP solutions now with support for SAP HANA

This week Dell Software unveiled a beta release of the latest version of its popular Toad for SAP solutions. Expected to launch later in Q2, the new release of Toad for SAP solutions includes support for SAP HANA. Toad for SAP solutions will make it easier for Database Administrators (DBAs) to administer and manage their environments running SAP HANA. As a result, organizations will not only be able to improve overall team member productivity and performance, but also can help reduce the learning curve typically experienced when transitioning to a new relational database management system.

SAP HANA is one of the fastest growing database platforms in the industry. Now, with the release of Toad for SAP solutions, DBAs will be able to manage all of their databases—including SAP HANA—using Toad’s familiar user interface and tool set. The Toad family of data and database management solutions is a critical component of Dell Software’s end-to-end information management offering, and the addition of support for SAP HANA furthers Dell’s efforts to help customers manage data in multi-platform environments.

These new solutions are just the most recent evidence of Dell’s long history of collaboration with SAP to keep customers’ businesses running smoothly and effectively. For more information on any of these solutions, visit the Dell booth at SAPPHIRE NOW.
