A few minutes ago, Ceres released its first-ever report ranking consumer and technology companies on climate change strategies. The report singled out Dell as a governance leader for integrating responsible environmental practices into its business, board and executive structure. Ceres, a leading coalition of investors, environmental groups and other public interest organizations, also singled out the transparency of our environmental goals and reporting, particularly our membership in the Carbon Disclosure Project and the fact that our Sustainability Council that meets quarterly to review accomplishments and future actions.
Our operational strategy also factored heavily in the high score we received, with our energy-efficiency efforts and carbon-neutral strategy singled out as examples. We’re also cited as leaders in supply chain management, as we now require our primary suppliers to manage improve and report their GHG emissions as a consideration for future business. We hosted the 2007 Asia Climate Impact Supplier Summit in Taipei and educated our suppliers on our expectations and environmental strategy. Our overall score in the report was higher than both Apple and HP. In fact, Dell ranked No. 3 out of the 63 companies evaluated.
"We’re challenging every technology company to join us in integrating “green” power and energy-efficient strategies into their operations, products and supply chains,” said Tod Arbogast, Dell's director of sustainable business on a global call hosted by Ceres. “Our customers – and our shared Earth – expect no less."
As always, we’d like to extend our sincere thanks to our customers who continue to share their great green ideas and concerns. We’re committed to continuing to drive green into our products, business and supply chain. We owe the recognition we've received from Ceres and others to this dialogue and encourage everyone to keep the ideas coming. In addition to IdeaStorm and the comments area of this blog, we now also have a forum – The Green Room – to facilitate these conversations. Look forward to seeing you there!
