Dell Gives Healthcare IT a Booster Shot at HIMSS09

Hello from HIMSS! I’m in Chicago this week along with the Dell Healthcare team at HIMSS09. What is HIMSS you ask? Well, it’s the world’s largest Healthcare IT conference and attracts an international audience. For me it has been a great opportunity to see Dell Americas team in action – talking to our Healthcare customers and in our demonstration areas, really bringing our solution offerings to life.

Dell made several key announcements on Monday, including our strategic alliance with Perot Systems. The Dell/ Perot Systems alliance provides integrated, virtual desktop, server, storage and EHR solutions to reduce up-front investment and accelerate EHR adoption. What’s exciting to me is that this is the first specific segment solution we’ve launched since we reorganized the business into the different vertical business units.

This has had some great media pick-up – a good example of this is CNET’s post; Dell aims to grab more healthcare dollars and my personal favourite so far from TechWorldNews; Dell Gives Healthcare IT a booster shot, which I have used as the name of this post.

Yesterday, we also launched IdeaStorm for Healthcare and Life Sciences, which got hundreds of tweets after Chris Brogan’s post. It’s great to see that there are several ideas in there already. I’ll be following up with some of the Healthcare IT bloggers to see if they want to submit an idea that could make Healthcare IT easier to run, more productive, and more cost effective.

I also managed to make it to the HIMSS Social Media meet-up. Whilst it did take me about 45 minutes to walk to/find the room in the immense McCormick convention centre it was great to make some new friends. I managed to drag Jamie and Shawn from Mayo Health System along with me to the Dell/Intel/Allscripts after show party where the live music was pumping and the rum punches were flowing.

A very tired Kerry is making her way back out to HIMSS again today. I’ll be refining my photography and video camera skills on the event floor.
