Dell Facebook Fans “Plant a Tree For a Friend”

It’s hard to believe that April 22, 2010 will be the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. What was once an event celebrated only within the United States, Earth Day is now celebrated around the globe with hundreds of millions participating in over 184 countries.

In honor of Earth Day we have created the “Plant a Tree For a Friend” Facebook application, to make it easy for you and your friends to help build a healthier planet, one tree and forest at a time. Click on the link in the previous sentence or click on the image below to get there.

Dell Plant a Tree for a friend in Facebook

Here’s how it works. For every tree that you dedicate to one of your Facebook friends, Dell will make a donation to The Conservation Fund, who will in turn, plant the trees on your friends behalf.  Sound like fun? Help us reach our goal of planting 150,000 trees on Earth Day!

Dell and The Conservation Fund Partnership

To bring you this program, Dell has partnered with experts at The Conservation Fund. The Conservation Fund has saved land in all 50 states — more than 6 million acres of wild havens, working lands, vibrant communities and more.

How Planting a Tree Makes an Impact

By planting a tree for a friend, you can not only help absorb greenhouse gas emissions, but also help improve air quality, recycle water, create shade, and provide food and homes for humans and wildlife across the planet.  The simple act of planting trees helps sustain our communities and the environment in countless ways.

Fun Tree Facts

  • Trees lower air temperature by evaporating water in their leaves.
  • World’s tallest tree is the Sequoia or California Redwood at over 379 ft.
  • Dendrochronology is the science of calculating a tree's age by its rings.
  • One acre of trees removes up to 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide each year.
  • At 4,789 years, the oldest living individual tree is “Methuselah,” a Bristlecone Pine. That’s 5x older than Yoda!

Happy Earth Day (almost)!!
