It’s official!
Dell and EMC have joined as one under the Dell Technologies umbrella. We’ve formed a new company for a new era with the industry’s most complete set of capabilities to help our customers thrive in our rapidly evolving digital world.
To do so, our customers need to quickly create new smart products and consumer-grade applications to ensure that they’re not “Uber’d,”, “Airbnb’d” or “Tesla’d”in their marketplace. Dell Technologies delivers the essential underlying technology and services to make it all possible.
I could not be more proud to be given the opportunity to lead the new Dell EMC Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG). We are a key enabler for our customers’ digital transformation through our enterprise hybrid cloud and native hybrid cloud solutions. This is all built upon a modern data center, which incorporates industry-leading converged infrastructure, servers, storage, data protection and cybersecurity technologies.
We’ve been hard at work not only closing out the transaction, but diligently mapping out our exciting future. In the coming weeks, months and quarters you’ll begin to see the fruits of these efforts in the form of ambitious new product plans that span and, in many cases, weave together our broad product portfolio. These plans don’t just encompass Dell EMC – they expand across Dell Technologies. For example, we see huge opportunity in hybrid cloud with VMware and Virtustream, in converged and hyper-converged infrastructure with VMware, in platform-as-a-service with Pivotal and VMware, and finally in cybersecurity with RSA and SecureWorks.
To give you a sense of the strength of our future market position, our combined Dell EMC Infrastructure Solutions business will be the industry’s leading provider in:

We believe these areas are foundational for creating a digital future with our customers and partners. And make no mistake, our combined investment in R&D – more than $12.7 billion over the last three years, and even more moving forward – will ensure our customers benefit from cutting-edge innovations that we believe will prove out the promise that Dell and EMC truly are “better together.”
Business Transformation Starts With IT
As I mentioned, Dell EMC’s primary purpose is to help customers with the crucial steps that are foundational to any digital business transformation.
But in order to free up dollars to invest in this transformation, often times IT has no choice but to transform first.
The first step is to modernize the infrastructure to deliver the maximum performance and availability as efficiently as possible. This is done using the latest flash-based and converged (compute and storage) technologies.
Step two is all about automating service delivery. Everything in the data center must be self-service and frictionless, making the environment both more efficient and more reliable. This turns existing IT environments into an “IT-as-a-Service” platform, providing a public cloud-like experience inside the data center.
And finally, the entire operating model and organizational structure of IT must transform. Services and service levels are well-defined and the costs are transparent to the business. IT operates entirely like a service provider.
Among most large enterprise CIOs, we find this 3-step strategy – Modernize, Automate, Transform (MAT) typically gets an enthusiastic nod of agreement.
We also recognize there are far more CIOs that operate in small- to medium-sized enterprises and are at different stages on their IT transformation journey. While the issues and challenges may be similar, their resources, capabilities and needs can vary quite significantly. This is where Dell’s historical expertise in helping commercial customers and SMB’s is unmatched.
But transforming existing IT environments is only half the story.
The other half – to really effect a digital transformation – involves building new cloud-native applications that are designed for radically larger data sets and radically more users. These new cloud-native applications promise to transform the business – delivering new consumer experiences and new smart, collaborative, products. Supporting these cloud-native applications requires a new platform and a new architecture –often software-defined and based on industry standard servers.
CIOs face big challenges to make this a reality. They need to use savings from IT transformation to support their digital transformation efforts… while still supporting the traditional applications that run the business today … and they must bridge the gap between these two worlds. We believe that Dell Technologies is uniquely positioned to help our customers address these challenges, with Dell EMC providing the essential infrastructure.
Built To Help Customers Thrive In The Digital Era
We have many exciting projects already underway that we’ll reveal in the coming weeks and months – watch out for Dell EMC World in mid-October for the big news!
But there’s no need to wait until then. Starting today we announced the new Dell EMC ProSupport One service, providing enterprise customers a unified data center support experience across their Dell and EMC products. This is the first step in our journey to provide a seamless engagement spanning customer’s entire Dell EMC data center environment, while preserving and extending quality of our existing best-in-class customer experiences.
