Dell Cloud Client Computing Solutions Support Citrix HDX 3D

Today Dell Cloud Client Computing is announcing our latest advancements in supporting a high-quality end user experience with Citrix XenDesktop environments with the addition of Citrix HDX 3D on a number of our thin- and zero-client platforms.

HDX 3D allows for delivery of 3D graphics intensive applications and high-performing desktops using a graphics processing unit (GPU) on the host system for hardware acceleration to boost rendering performance. With HDX 3D you can easily virtualize native OpenGL and DirectX-based applications with like-native OS performance on a LAN or over a WAN.

HDX 3D is designed for the most demanding graphics-intensive applications, including:

  • 3D Computer-Aided Design, Manufacturing, and Engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) apps
  • Geographical Information System (GIS) and simulation software
  • Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) workstations for medical imaging
  • HD multimedia editing

HDX 3D is now supported on the following Dell Wyse cloud clients:

  • Z90D7 Windows Embedded Standard 7 thin client
  • X90m7 Windows Embedded Standard 7 mobile thin client
  • Xenith 2 zero client designed for Citrix XenDesktop, including ARM System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture
  • Xenith Pro zero client designed for Citrix XenDesktop

With this diverse mix of thin- and zero-clients now supporting HDX 3D, Dell Cloud Client Computing is addressing a wide variety of organizational and end user use cases.  From the broad application and peripheral support of Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7 to mobile users on the go to those organizations looking to “lock down” their XenDesktop end points with malware-immune Xenith zero clients, HDX 3D can now be extended to “power users” running the most demanding graphics-intensive applications throughout an organization.

In addition to Dell Wyse endpoints, Dell offers support for Citrix XenServer with HDX 3D on its Dell Precision R5500 rack workstation. It is the first virtualized 2U rack workstation supporting up to two concurrent professional graphics users running high-end 3D professional scientific, engineering, media & entertainment and other professional applications on a single workstation from virtually anywhere. Users can connect to the Dell Precision R5500 via Dell and non-Dell computing devices including Dell Wyse endpoints, laptops, desktops or other mobile devices that have a loaded Citrix Receiver.

HDX 3D makes high-end graphics a useful reality within Citrix VDI environments, and Dell helps deliver HDX 3D to more end users than ever before.
