Dell and Red Hat kick up our collaboration two notches! New Dell Services with Red Hat OpenShift, and new OpenStack technologies

Red Hat Summit is already off to a great start here in Boston. Long a provider of open source solutions, Dell has a 30 year legacy of making open technologies accessible to everyone by building solutions based on open standards. Dell is honored to be a platinum sponsor of this year’s edition of Red Hat Summit. Our focus this year will be to communicate and demonstrate how Dell’s open, flexible, and heterogeneous capable solutions support our customers as they transform their organizations to become Future-Ready.

On the expo floor in booth #207 we are showcasing a number of solutions including solutions for SAP HANA, our OpenStack Cloud, powered by Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and multi-cloud management solution with Dell Cloud Manager.

Technology Preview: Dell + Red Hat + Intel powering enterprise capable OpenStack

Today at Red Hat Summit, we are excited to outline a new 3-way technical collaboration in which Dell, Red Hat and Intel plan to jointly engineer new capabilities and refine existing functionality in OpenStack in a number of key areas including:

  • In place, seamless rolling updates of core OpenStack services – so OpenStack users will be able to efficiently refresh their OpenStack environments with the latest code releases without impacting operations. These enhancements also include work on a new deployment engine.
  • Enhancing continuous availability for core OpenStack Services to help make OpenStack environments easier to maintain and support.
  • Virtual machine (VM) high availability, which will provide capabilities to evacuate hosts that experience a hardware failure, support workload consolidation to improve efficiency, and to support scheduled hardware maintenance or upgrades.

In the booth, Dell, Red Hat and Intel are planning a Technology Preview to illustrate in particular the new VM high availability capabilities being created through our joint collaboration. Be sure to stop by to learn more!

New PaaS offering from Dell Services

For enterprise customers seeking a services-based cloud solution, Dell Services has been working on a new solution for public cloud. Built on a Dell-branded OpenShift platform, the new solution will deliver deployment, migration and management of the operating system and applications via an OpenShift Online platform for U.S. customers. Red Hat will manage this all-new PaaS environment. This is the first Dell-branded PaaS platform designed for Red Hat.

Dell Services is also in the process of joining the Red Hat Global System Integrator Program. Designed for partners who demonstrate leadership, unique capabilities and commercial relationships with global enterprise customers, the Red Hat Global Systems Integrator Program accommodates partners who also provide managed services, cloud services and consulting.

An open source renaissance with Dell at the center

There is a resurgence of open solutions making their way to the market, something Dell believes is crucial to the future-ready enterprise. As renewed energy is placed on OpenStack, Dell’s engineered solutions will continue to feature RAs, appliances, and cloud solutions all designed to help enterprise customers take advantage of open-standards-based technology. Partnering is a foundational cornerstone of open solutions, and Dell will maintain its position at the center of this energized ecosystem.
