Are You Going to SWOMfest 08?

swomfestbug-beer Occasionally you come across an event that joins business benefit, social networking, and fun. I have found one for this year that stands out- SWOMfest. SWOMfest is a conference and party for the members and friends of the Society for Word of Mouth (SWOM), the social network dedicated to helping companies and brands build word of mouth into the DNA of their organizations.

About two months ago I joined SWOM – free, my kinda price tag :). I was at an event in  Dallas and heard Jackie Huba (one of the two Chief Swomies of SWOM, Ben McConnell is the other Chief Swomi) present about the power of word of mouth. She suggested I check out SWOM since it closely aligns with my job at Dell – organizing a team that operates our digital media and online communities. A sideline requirement is to evangelize and demonstrate the power of word of mouth which is a cornerstone to digital media and online communities. I am always looking for real business examples of word of mouth benefiting a business. At SWOM you are immediately put in contact with other Swomies discussing practical applications, examples, and results of word of mouth in the business environment.

In full disclosure, you should know that Dell is one of the sponsors and I will be one of the speakers – apart from my small role, Jackie and Ben have planned a different type of event shared in this video. Plan on joining us in Austin on October 30.

Update: I forgot to mention that we have two tickets to SWOMfest that we are ready to give to Direct2Dell readers. Now through September 22, in the comment thread of my post, tell us what product, service or company you tell others about and why. Soon after, we will offer tickets to two winners chosen at random of all comments posted.

Thanks in advance.
