A historical look at Cloud Computing [Infographic]

Cloud Computing has been a concept that dates back as early as the 1960’s.  It has had many precursors such as utility computing, the ASP model, autonomic computing and the list goes on.

Below is an interesting take by some colleagues on the cloud computing history that includes some fun facts along the way.

Fun with Google trends

As an aside, the infographic above got me thinking so I did a little searching on Google trends.  The first chart I created was one for the terms, “public cloud,” “private cloud” and “hybrid cloud, “ and the second chart plots the terms “SaaS,” “PaaS,” and “IaaS” alongside “cloud computing.”  Not surprisingly, over the last three years, “private cloud” outstrips public and hybrid as far as being searched on and written about.  With regards to the *aaS chart, SaaS is the big winner as I would have guessed but its I didn’t realize that “PaaS” predated “cloud computing” while “IaaS” comes after.
