96 Industry Analysts, Two Days, One Great Event.

On May 4-5 Dell conducted its Annual Industry Analyst Conference at the W Hotel in Austin, TX.

Sameer Garde, OEM Solutions vice president and general manager, was a featured panelist during the two-day event where 96 analysts from Gartner, IDC, Forrester and a dozen other firms were in attendance from North America, EMEA, APJ and Brazil.

Dozens of Dell executives were on tap to discuss all areas of Dell’s business from Michael Dell to leaders from our Public Large Enterprise, CSMB, Channel, R&D, Services and Solutions.

As a panelist on the Emerging Markets panel (moderated by Dell CMO Karen Quintos), Sameer told a packed audience about Dell OEM Solutions and this very successful side of Dell about which few knew.  He was joined by colleagues from China, Scotland and India discussing more nascent (but no less integral) aspects of Dell’s business such as channel sales, R&D and country-specific emerging markets.

Twitter was abuzz with all kinds of positive, real-time conversation during the event. Analysts tweeted about Sameer’s panel and Dell OEM specifically—Matt Eastwood at IDC tweeted, “Dell’s OEM biz is a personal favorite of @MichaelDell. Great to see them shed some light on this business at #SSVE” to which @MichaelDell responded on Twitter, “True!”

Also part of the event was a technology showcase where each business unit shared more about their groups with analysts in an informal setting. From these conversations we learned more about hot topics for the analysts including:

  • Storage – EVERYONE wanted to talk about storage and what Dell is doing in this space, what verticals are most affected and whether OEM Solutions has a stake in this market. We do and you’ll be seeing more about the OEM-specific storage conversation in the coming weeks.
  • Business transformation – Many analysts wanted to talk more about how we’re transforming our customers’ businesses while we work to transform our own organization.  Everyday we work with companies who develop their own IP and need customized hardware to bring it to market.
  • Services – Analysts perk up when conversations about cloud and virtualization come up and OEM knows how to help customers bring their IP to the cloud.

We’ll keep you posted in the coming weeks and months as we continue to engage with our industry analysts. It’s time Dell’s best-kept secret was let out of the bag!
