Emerging Technologies Highlight the Future of Digital Cities at Dell Technologies’ Gitex 2018 Presence

Leading the Digital Transformation discussion Dell Technologies attended the 39th Gitex Technology Week and showcased the industry’s most advanced IT transformation portfolio including workforce and security solutions that are enabling businesses to excel in tomorrow’s competitive landscape.

The highlight of our Gitex presence was the visit from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice-President of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, who showed great interest in hearing more about the integration of emerging technologies like Virtual (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) with the Internet of Things (IoT) and the role they play in enabling digital cities.

We also took this as an opportunity to reveal the findings of our Digital Transformation Index which mapped Digital Transformation progress among mid-to-large companies and assessed the barriers to adoption and advancement. The results were fascinating with 90% of businesses in the UAE and KSA facing significant roadblocks to their digital transformation initiatives today. But despite minimal growth in digital leadership, there has been a 12% rise in the digital adopter’s group since 2016, and this is promising for us.

Other exciting developments from Gitex 2018 were Dell EMC’s new agreements with Safe City Group and Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA). Two separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were signed by Mohammed Amin, Senior Vice President: Middle East, Turkey & Africa at Dell EMC. These MoU’s promise to offer turnkey solutions to help these organizations succeed in the digital age, including continued development of advanced solutions for public safety in the UAE and the initiation of DAFZA Cloud, a landmark project that will allow DAFZA customers to activate their entire office within 3 days using end-to-end solutions from Dell Technologies.

In line with the ongoing transformation of Dubai into a smart city, Emaratech, a leading technology and consulting company in the Arab world, have also announced their strategic partnership with Dell EMC. This project aims to ensure a seamless, swift, and efficient travel experience for travelers and enhance operations by adopting scalable, reliable, and readily available data management and storage architecture solutions.

Visitors to the Dell EMC stand at Gitex were introduced to Dell’s new UltraSharp monitor family which offers superb screen performance, thus driving productivity for financial traders, bankers, engineers, professional creators, and programmers. Also present were the range of Dell products designed for on-the-go professionals and specialized professionals alike.

But Gitex wasn’t just about new partnerships, it was also about celebrating strong, successful collaborations; Dell EMC and SecureTech celebrated the 10-year anniversary of our joint strategy for the development of Large Enterprise IT and ICT installations. The joint association with SecureTech has resulted in the successful delivery of many mission-critical large-scale ICT projects in the region and Fady Richmany, Senior Director and General Manager, United Arab Emirates, at Dell EMC said; “we are happy to be associated with our longstanding partner, SecureTech, who has demonstrated an unparalleled track record of growth, and we expect this relationship to thrive long into the future.”
