Cool head, full power: Dell EMC PowerEdge

It is difficult to define the ideal server in a word. A series of factors have to come together: performance, stability – and of course efficiency. We have spent a lot of time making sure that our Dell EMC PowerEdge server doesn’t leave anything to be desired in any of these areas. In this way,  both you and your server can always keep a cool head even at maximum workload.

Higher speeds mean higher temperatures. This old piece of “IT-wisdom” is something we all learn once we start working with this “dark matter” … The faster the processor, or for instance the entire system, the hotter it all gets. And if the heat gets too intense we get that good old emergency break-down – which for a server is little short of disastrous.

We are of course aware of this. And that is exactly why we have put so much effort into the development and design of the new Dell EMC PowerEdge server to make it efficient, stable and cool, but of course without sacrificing any of its power. And so, we have officially re-taken the performance lead at the TPCx-Big Bench Benchmark.

The big secret behind the success: in PowerEdge you find the combination of our industry-leading system design and the use of hyper modern components such as the Intel® Xeon® processors of the most recent generation. This we have furthermore combined with DellEMC’s embedded OpenManage software and the integrated Dell EMC Remote Access Controller (iDRAC). By that, our users can continuously keep an eye on the entire system (we even track the cooling capacity of each individual PCIe slot) while simultaneously automate all maintenance routines.

Smart software can’t solve all problems, of course, so we have optimised and perfected our hardware as well. The thermal and mechanical layout of the cooling for the new PowerEdge server makes it possible to run the system under extreme conditions as well as enabling the application of extremely powerful CPUs, NVMe, NVDIMMs, GPUs and FPGAs.

Our PowerEdge server and its intelligent construction is also not a rigid system. It allows for add-ons and personalisation. Do you prefer the smart, continuous multi-vector optimised air cooling system, or rather liquid cooling? Both are at your disposal. Additionally, you can use different network parts, all of which can easily be managed via the Dell EMC OpenManage Power Center.

In conclusion: with PowerEdge servers you can rest assured that all workloads will run smoothly and quickly, that all data is safe and the requisite cooling is perfectly and continually adapted.
